The city Casino has a rich calendar of events and does not only offer an adrenalin rush at the gambling tables!
Carinthia is an extremely generous land with its superb position and enviable climate, ideal for the cultivation of fruit trees, with rich green pastures for the animals and ample fresh clear water for the breeding of fish. During the course of year there are many events and village festivals where the pleasures of the table are combined with festivals to celebrate the work of man and the products of the land. One of these is the renowned “Kirchtag” or the “Fischfest” at Feld am see or the Brotfest at “Liesing”. Traditonal cooking in Carinthia has been influenced by both German and Mediterranean cuisine, with a mix of very definite flavors from the former and lightness and creativity from the latter.
Not to be missed in Carinthis: bread from the Lesach valley, made from flour ground in ancient mills driven by water, protected by UNESCO as a world heritage sites, thanks to the special process of production which goes back thousand of years and has remained unaltered to this very day.
The Kärntner Nudeln, is a famous Carinthian tagliatelle, masterfully filled with stuffings made from paotatoes, meat, mushrooms and much more besides, or in the sweet version with pears, ricotta cheese, raisins etc. There is an infinite variety according to area and the cook's imaginative creativity, all absolutely mouthwatering.
Another famous dish is Kasnudeln ,Carinthian tortelloni also filled with potatoes or little cubes of bread and ricotta cheese.
For a sweet tooth Kärntner Reindling, a cake with a filling made of sugar, cinnamon and raisons.
