The Dolomites boast the higest concentration of Michelin starred chefs per square kilometer in Italy. Side by side with the great master chefs there are also a great many young talents eager to present traditional recipes with more original dishes that are just as tempting.
The cuisine of the Dolomites was born “poor”, as it originally included only a few dishes and featured recipes that were simple, yet offered unique flavours. As time passed, this cuisine became more extensive, but always remained loyal to tradition, which emphasizes genuine local products of the land where the cuisine originated. Today, Trentino, South Tyrol and Veneto offer well-known foods, fantastic wines, exceptional spumanti and excellent restaurants with great chefs - all elements that turn the Dolomite regions into haute cuisine realms.
Standing out among the white wines are Müller Thurgau, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, while Teroldego, Lagrein, Pinot Nero, Merlot and Cabernet are the reds of note. Bubbles wine with the delicate, effervescent spumante produced according to Metodo Classico.
Grappa is made from numerous varieties of grapes and is often flavoured with herbs and wild fruit: Gentian, rue, wild strawberries, mountain pine and blueberry are just some of the famous grappas you can savour in the Dolomites!
The culinary season on the slopes of Alta Badia starts officially in December, with the Gourmet Skisafari, the gastronomic tour on skis to taste the gourmet dishes, created by the best chefs from the most exclusive international ski destinations.
The event in the heart of the Dolomites - UNESCO World Heritage, brings local and international gourmet chefs in several mountain huts in the Alta Badia ski region. The chefs delight skiers creating dishes based on regional recipes and traditions from their home country. There is also the opportunity to meet the famous chefs personally, listen to the story behind the plate and, who knows, discover some well-kept trade secret.
For all foodies and ski-lovers a perfect opportunity to explore the ski slopes in Alta Badia and to savour the best of international cuisine.
